Glen Keane Disney Style Kalim

Week 2 of the One Year Style Challenge - August 13th, 2014

My OC Kalim in Glen Keane's style of art, used in popular Disney films such as The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and Tangled (to name a few). Glen Keane's work has inspired me ever since I was a little girl and Disney is where I got my start as an artist before I ever discovered anime.

What I have learned: Glen Keane's style is very clean, and I notice his anatomy is pretty spot on. For protagonist characters he keeps the body proportions fairly close to realistic, though he does exaggerate certain features (narrow waistlines are pretty common). For villains he tends to morph them a lot more, like the stickly Jafar or the hideous, obese Ursula. You know those characters are bad because they are not beautiful, whereas all the good guys are all pretty or handsome. I also enjoy his use of colorized lines and very soft, air-brushy shading.
